President Sarah Palin...WTF?!

She's Considering Running for President in 2012

First, I'd like you to know that I spent time searching for a good picture of Sarah. She seems like a nice lady. I don't hate her. But I am going to be very honest - I don't think she should be President of the United States of America. I think it would be a bad idea for everyone.

In interviews with ABC and the New York Times, she has said that she's checking out the lay of the land and trying to decide if being President would be good for the country, her family and the discourse.

No - to all three of those, Mrs. Palin.

Here's why:
  1. The Country - Your inexperience and extreme leanings to the far-right will only serve to continue the partisan politics and gridlock we're used to seeing in D.C. True change in federal politics will only happen when the politicians learn to work together for the greater public good. You have not shown the desire to bring the country together or a record of making good public policy. Still, drill, baby, drill?
  2. Your Family - Your family is not well-served by you being the President. They will suffer, as all families of those in public service. If you were truly concerned with them over the idea of public service, you would sacrifice your chance in the spotlight to be with them. There are some benefits, both long and short term, but all of them material. If what you mean by "good for my family" is to make sure they will always have benefits over the average Joe citizen, then go for it.
  3. The Discourse - You are, unfortunately, only promoting more of the same sensational entertainment of the political world. You have not contributed any new ideas and have not promoted true conversation in the heart of cooperation with others, especially those who disagree with you.
She Said She Could Beat Obama in 2012

This is, unfortunately, very possible. The President's approval rating has dropped below 50 percent and the economy is still in the crapper. People are still out of work. Politicians are still doing the same things. So, here's a political lesson for President Obama or whoever else wants to become President - don't over-promise. He was his own worst enemy in getting people to believe that one man could change the POLITICAL MACHINE that is Washington D.C. You can't, no person can. It's a system with checks and balances. It would take a majority of the people working together in the system to make it right again.

The system is broken right now, for many, many reasons.

Remember That Little Thing I Mentioned About Campaigns? MONEY!!!

Sarah isn't just thinking about running for President. There's only 2 years left before the election. She will be running. She must raise money now and if she hasn't started, she's way behind. The Reality TV show and all this publicity is the start. The Republicans are using the media techniques from the Obama campaign to elevate Sarah Palin to "star" status. Look for her on covers of magazines or for her to write a few books. It's going to be one Hell of a gosh-darn-it-there-you-go-again-I'm-going-to-try-and-be-Reagan-ride!

Seriously, the only way she won't run is if the Republican Party stomps out the dream.

I'm leaving the country...

  2. If Palin were elected, I'd be on the first plan out.... I commented on your first post.. what do you think about Larry Lessig's efforts with fix congress first? You've written a bunch about the fundraising issue.. Seems to me Lessig is leading the mission to fix that $$ mess.
